Limitations of Virtual Private Servers
There are a few occasions when a virtual private server is not an appropriate hosting solution. If you need to compile your own kernel or directly access the hardware layer then a vps solution will not work for you. Of course, as with any fully dedicated server, it is also important to 'right-size' your vps for the job. You cannot make your web site(s) run on a vps this week if they needed the resources of a full dedicated server last week. Here are the few limitation or disadvantage of vps servers.
1. A Virtual Private Server is capable of handling 30,000 to 50,000 hits (assuming hits generally request about 5 kb of data) per day
2. A Virtual Private Server can only host a finite number of Virtual Subhosts due to performance reasons
3. You do need to have some programming knowledge to control and configure the settings. Sounds overwhelming, it doesn’t have to be since most web host companies that offer Virtual Private Servers have very detailed manuals, which makes it easier to configure and control your web site no matter if you know anything about programming or not.
4.If you have a larger more complex business, then you may not want to consider using a Virtual Private Server web host.
5. Virtual Private Server obviously uses the resources of a single Virtual Private Server to accommodate the needs of multiple web sites. Among the resources that are shared is the single IP address that is associated with the Virtual Private Server. Search engine spiders which are not HTTP/1.1 compliant will not be able to index the sites. Most major spiders and search engines are now HTTP/1.1 compliant.
